Ya know I hate to be an isolationist, but the way things are going, it may not be a bad idea.

Wouldn't it be great if something substantial had really been done, starting back in the 70s, to actually find an alternative fuel source to oil after the first Arab Oil Embargo? We might have been weaned off it by now and, hopefully, not even hogtied over in the Middle East now! Maybe we wouldn't be having this particular no win "Debate" on the Forum right now either.

You're so right! I think a big step toward turning this Country around would be to outlaw all the Corporate Lobbyists from Washington. They have more influence on Congress than the people who put them in office do.

I think that way a lot too, but the reality is, the lobbyists outlive most of the congress. They also DO have a function in an ideal version of our society. They are supposed to help the politicians understand the lobbyists particular field of representation.

Our elected officials are far from experts in all the things they are asked to vote on. We have the occasional physician or other professional that became a congressman/woman but the reality is most of them are rather ignorant of most things they are voting on, lobbyists SHOULD help these uneducated lawmakers get up to speed. Unfortunately money and agendas as well as partisan politics make the situation far less ideal and the horror show we have today.

I gotta agree, we are "going to hell in a hand basket" as my mommy used to say.
Oh well, time to go for the bread and circus, turn from reality and play my guitar. It helps, really...............

I think Merle Haggard said it best

I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
