My first thought is that the new bra is choking off airflow to the radiator, hate to ask the obvious Sam, but when did you check your coolant level last?

Its been doing this for a while, if I stay out of traffic it's ok. I topped it off this morning about an inch over the proper line, and the system has been burped a couple times lately, trying to make it better. I think the fan isn't working properly. Think the massive IC makes any difference, it defiantly blocks more air than the bra?

Well the air does have to take the "long way around" to get to the radiator proper, through the I/C, then through the A/C Condenser, and finally into the radiator.

The fan is an easy check, crank it up in the morning and hit your A/C, that will engage the auxiliary fan, if it doesn't start then there's more to troubleshoot.

If the fan does run, it could be air entrained in the system, a failing thermostat, or the worst case scenario....a blown head gasket.

Is there a direct correlation between the start of these overheating episodes and the bra fitment?

And what sort of ambient air temps are you dealing with now?

Ha Ha it was a monsoon traffic jam today for 150 miles. I just love Seattle. I was about to change the oil, so I should look at the dip stick first? Lord willing it will just look dirty, Then switch on ac see if fan runs ? I took it to the dealer the first time it happened, they said no big deal, it was 97 that day, but what ever it is needs fixin. So the first time was last august, I wanted a bra then, but didn't find the right price yet. Can I call that frugal ?

Yeah check the condition and color of the oil, normal dirty is OK, if it looks like chocolate milk...engage panic mode.

Shoot me a PM with your e-mail Sam(since it escaped from my computer somehow), and I'll send you some pertinent sections of the service manual in the morning.

Nothing wrong with being frugal in this day and age, and while I'm thinking of it, how often have you been topping off the coolant?

Since I got the car, it had the gurgle when I bought it, two different dealers have documented my cooling system concerns. The first one found a dribble at the cross over pipe, reported that an O ring could be leaking, minutely. so i have checked and filled prolly a 1/2 gallon in 1.5 years and 40,000 miles, more than I like but not alarming. I got to stop and go look,......He is good to me it isn't even dirty, oil looks good. So whats next ?

Good question Sam, gonna have to sleep on it, and grab the books after my meeting in the morning.

Now I have something to think about while Hiz Honer drones on incessantly, just bet you wish it wasn't your cooling issue huh?
