Health/Life Challenge
the sugar molecules in the testing products. It doesn't remove them just hides them from detection...that's why it's a falst negative.
Been Type 2 diabetic for 13 years, now. And I monitor/watch everything!
If you start a program, either weight loss or diebetic, good luck. Each of those are associated.
The doctor put me on Glucophage to get my body to absorb the insulin better so the pancreas stops producing as much. She said a side effect is increase weight loss. Sounds good to me! There's also a chance of stomach upset which probably causes the weight loss. The pharmacist was concerned because she prescribed 850 mg and most people start out on 500 mg. I didn't start it yet as I didn't want to get sick while driving. First thing tomorrow!
Glucophage, or metformin in the generic name, is a time tested type 2 diabetes drug. Been around for years, with little side effects (for the majority). You'll probably have a good experience with it, unless of course, you are one of the minority (personally, I'm glad she is attempting this drug first...some of the "newer" drugs are terribly "hard" on the liver).
I don't know you, and have never met you, so please do not take offense.....but losing some weight (body fat) is a BIG factor in proper control. More and more studies suggest a reduction of as little as 5% body fat may provide a reduced blood glucose reading of 20-30 points. I belong to an informal local group here and began promoting this concept. Absolutely amazing results have been witnessed by a lot of friends/folks.
Hey, I wish you the best. It's a tough medical problem that is encountered, generally, later in life....after WE are set in are ways So, it will require some behavior modification....and that's the tough part. But, you'll get through it and probably feel much better overall.
I'm not a doctor, but if you need encouragement, support or suggestions, feel free to PM me. The "buddy" system is a tremendous boost.

Well i am in too. Just alittle about me. I've been in the military for 5 years and always been in shape. But when i got pregnant last year and had the baby, i stoped exercising all together (plus i was out if the army for a ilttle while)
i do not want to lose wieght, i want to gain more muscle. See i am in the process of becoming a trooper and in order to be successful i need to be in shape. i am halfway done the process for being eligible for the academy.
although,i need to meet the pt requirements. this includes pushups, situps, and 2 mile run and 300 meter dash.
i am 22 years old (i know young)
130 lbs
i am anemic trying to get my blood count back up.
Also i had a flat tummy and now have a little pouch that i am trying to get rid of.

O.K.! So this got away from me. I have been searching frantically for a job and FINALLY found one. The problem is now that I am working 10-13 hours a day with additional drive times of up to 2-3 hours. Doesn't leave any time for a work out and if it did I still wouldn't be in the mood for one after standing on my feet all day. My new goal is to do all the things I mentioned previously without the daily gym workouts and hope that standing in the hot sun all day sweats off a few pounds
How is everyone else doing?!?

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. I've been meaning to post to it for a while now.
I have modified my diet quite a bit, am exercising more, and pass by the fast food places. I'm down about 5 pounds but don't want or expect to lose it quickly. I don't miss much except baked goods. They are my downfall.
My son is home from college now so that has made things a little more difficult. If I grill burgers, he gets beef and I get chicken or turkey. I've stayed away from canned vegetables because of the salt and my borderline high blood pressure. My doctor tried me on one drug for BP but it made me ill all day long. Yes, that will help me lose weight but my productivity at work was taking a big hit. It also got the BP down to 80/50 which I thought was way too low. I convinced her to allow me to use diet and exercise to lower the BP. So far so good!
