Cam gears

Any tricks to getting new cam gears on? I'm doing a new timing set and I can't get the gears on the shaft.

I believe they only line up and go on one way, they should be marked intake or exhaust

I've got them lined up, but the chain is so tight that I can't get the exhaust gear to go far enough to the back of the motor to slide over the cam. Will try again this afternoon, guess I will use a big pry bar to get it back enough.

Wrong chain or the tensioner is already engaged?

The gears should already be on the shafts. IIRC, you put the crankshaft gear on last.

Check your PM.

I got it, the tensioner wasn't in it yet. I wasn't turning the exh cam far enough to engage the little keys on the back of the gear.
