How to change your own oil.
used a fram ultra last week.....with the "orange" o-ring........no leaks..all is good. i think that some of the leak issues are cause of not lubing the ring...dont know, just know that no matter which brand of filter that i've used over the years on the HHR(purolanor, fram, mobil 1, bosch), that i've never had and leaks, at all......

Nope. Biggest cause of oil leaks in the filter area is improper gasket material by aftermarket filter manufacturers. That's why I posted a service notice by GM/Chevrolet, about it. Do a search you'll find it.
i may at some point decide to start changing my own oil the price between the oil and filter and what my mechanic charges is not all that much. and to it can be pain. i gotta buy ramps etc. just not a dramatic enough cost savings to justify doing it myself.
I just use a small jack to raise the HHR high enough to reach under to get at the drain plug with a ratchet. No need to crawl under the car, just reach under.
You can go to a pawn shop and get a 3ton jack for like 40$. Once you do it a few times, you start saving. Plus you know what you did, and not have to trust someone you dont know as often. Plus some lube shops hire newbies and dont always train very well. :p
