Left brake light not working... it's not the bulb
Nah. Incandescent light bulb quality was always challenging. I did design work upgrading some very old machines that make them. Very old technology. I held in my hand an india ink on linen drawing dated 1911 and the part was still in use. There are probably machines that were used for over 100 years, maybe more, maybe still running. What we take for granted as a simple device is pretty complicated to make, and a gazillion things can go wrong. After a century of dominance in lighting, white-hot filaments will soon be rare though. They’re ridiculously inefficient compared to LED’s.
Very soon incandescent bulbs will not be legal. In 2023 they will no longer be manufactured you have until 2024 to buy old stock. That is most bulbs that produce 310-2600 lumens, there are some exemptions.
I know this is an old post but just wanted to say thanks for all of your help! The HHR is still running good. I had to replace both wheel hub/wheel bearing assemblies a few days ago. I recently had new tires and the front and rear brakes replaced including new calipers on the front. I had what I thought was tire noise but that wasn't it. Turns out the front wheel bearings were almost totally shot. Everything's running good now. Still have to get the speakers replaced! :-)
