Update for High Temp Muffler Coating

As I have metioned lately I just added a second HHR to the fleet.
2011 .. 2LT.. Black Granite .. Gray interior .. 11,400 miles.

While working on all the usual little fix up details I decided not only Paint the rear Resonator Flat Black as I did my 2011 1LT earlier, but to try a different paint this time.

On the 1LT I used VHT 900 degree High Temp flat black.
It started burning off within a few weeks. Kinda surprised me.

This time I am using "VHT Flame Proof" 1300-2000 degree Header Paint.
A Silica-Ceramic coating in Flat Black.

Wiped down everything with Acetone till the towel showed clean.
Picked a 75 degree nice day to apply 2 lite coats and the 1 medium wet coat.

Start car and let idle 10 minutes... shut off 20 minutes ...
Then idle 20 minutes, shut off 20 minutes,
Followed by drive normal for 30 minutes and then let cool down.

Looks nice but we will see how this application works out.

Fingers Crossed.....

Well ... I just took a good look at what I did a year ago as stated above.

It looks just like when I spayed it originally except a little dirty. No sign of deterioration.

So .... I just sprayed the new 2011 HHR I just purchased with the same product following the same instructions as before.

I can say I am pleased with the durabilty to this point.

Cheap old BBQ black works great...V H T paints h ave a particular cleaning application process to make it work correctly. If not done right, will peel right off.

As stated in my original post, the lower temp VHT didn't hold up but it didn't peel. It just burned off.
The Hi Temp Ceramic is doing just fine after 1 year.
I see nothing special about how I prepped this paint job.
Just cleaned the surface and sprayed it on.
I would do the same if I used Black BBQ paint.
