07 HHR Sunroof Drain Tube Grommet
I have a 07 HHR that developed the infamous wet floor on the passenger side front, after much poking and blowing down the drain tube from the opening in the sunroof frame, I decided to place a floor jack with a crossbeam under the door and raised it enough to let the door sit on the crossbeam so to remove the hinge bolts and tension bar from the door while my Mrs steadied the door on the jack which gave me a little more room to visualize and remove the grommet and remove any clogs. Well upon removing the grommet I immediately got a tidal wave of water/ dirt etc out of the drain tube, the grommet was easy to remove and clean and put back together. Upon inspection of the grommet I discovered the inside was a sort of partition molded inside with a crosslike opening about 1/16th of an inch which either slows the water flow but also serves as a stop that catches whatever dirt is inside the tube and clogs your drain tube over time. I used a swiss army knife with the small blade and twisted it inside the grommet which is soft robber and removed this engineered obstruction which was causing the drain to clog. I put everything back in place and ran water thru and works like it should, this was the passenger side front which took about 30 minutes, so we did the drivers side front next and it took about 15 minutes since I knew what to do now. The other infamous HHR engineering wonder was the leaking butyl plastic cover under the windshield cowl, I had replaced this earlier and used some aluminum duct tape over top of the factory butyl patch but it started to leak again. I removed all of the duct tape and replaced it with the Gorilla brand of waterproof tape which is very sticky but is very pliable and workable especially under the windshield glass using plastic molding tools which is the hardest place to get a good fit with the butyl patch, the gorilla tape did the job. I hope this helps you folks that are having the same types of problems.
