Yes, I'm with you about $65 for that. I think I'll roll this to a back burner, and see what turns up. After all, I've been using it in the dark for a year; a few more weeks or months isn't going to be too painful. Maybe my local junkyards are cheaper. If not, the LEDs are a great idea.

While we're on the topic, the list of bulb replacements in this forum says (if I find the unit), I'd need a PC168 lamp. After seeing FMG's photo, and doing a quick internet search, it looks like it should be a 211-2. If I'm right, can that correction be noted somewhere for future users?

Thanks!

We've got a couple of members here that are parting out some HHR's. I'm sure one of them could come up with a cargo light pretty cheap.

Here's one ad : https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/clas...-4-hhrs-55720/

Thanks FMG, I've submitted the request.

Hey Oldblue, I bought that LED light kit. It's going to fit really nicely in the dome light. Brilliant idea!

So here's my newbie question: Do I need to worry about positive or negative polarity when connecting it? There's a red wire and a black one on the new light. The plug in the HHR roof has a grey wire, and a black/white striped one. I can upload a photo if needed. No markings on the LED light at all.

YES, polarity is key for LED's, but you won't hurt anything by plugging it in backwards, it just won't light up until you put it in the right way.

Red and black wire should be the + and - on the new light. Just use a multi-meter on the car's plug to determine the polarity of those wires.
Then. Positive to positive. Negative to negative.

Project finished -- I now have light in the cargo area! The LED light kit looks clean and crisp - and yes, a whole lot less expensive than a replacement OED light, and then I'd need to buy new lamps occasionally. Thanks, everyone!
