2010 hhr goes forward in all gears
#25
Please stop asking if people solved their unrelated problems in dead threads. It is very unlikely that any will answer. Most of them are related to the transfer tubes breaking, which results in forward only no reverse. That is in the pan, those 2 tubes.
So now your symptoms have changed? No reverse, only forward and park does lock the trans. Started out all positions caused forward.
Have you examined both ends of the electrical connections? Pins sometimes get bent or pushed out the back. I am leaning towards a wire problem, either internal or external.
The P/N switch tells the computer what position the gear selector is in. Then it tells the TCM what to do.
Is the CheckEngineLight on? What codes if it is.
When you moved the lever did the gears change as expected?
The computer thinks the trans is in neutral, that turns the RPM limiter on thus 3000 RPM max.

”When you moved the lever did the gears change as expected?” I read this and am currently having this issue with my 2007 Chevrolet HHR Automatic 2.4L, at first I had no crank, no start (was an easy fix) then after I got it to start, I attempted to put the car in drive, and while the shifter would go through all gears, the transmission was not responsive (Stuck in park/neutral). Now the shifter is stuck in park, will NOT leave the “P” gear unless I bypass the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS). Any ideas exactly what is going on??

Sorry you are having issues. With in my post at the beginning I noted that I had the transmission side panel open and replaced the solenoids.
did you do any work prior to this happening?
if yes than it may be the same issue. There were times when I first put it back together that the shift lever seemed stuck. Most likely not the safety switch. I would jack the car up remove the top shift connector at the transmission and using a wrench connected to the transmission post andshift through the gears.

The shifter stuck in park is a known problem. 2 solutions: spray some lubricant on the interlock mechanism on the lever assembly or replace the assembly. There was an extended warranty for the problem, I think it has expired. It also happens with a dead battery.
Does the P/N move by hand?
Please keep problems in one thread, so we can follow. It gets very confusing spread all over the site.
