Ac compressor on same wiring as temp gauge?

Ac compressor on same wiring as temp gauge?
My Ac compressor wont switch on, ( 2008 2.2 auto) and I noticed at the same time the Temp gauge stopped registering, zeroed out.
Couls the same wiring problem cause both of these problems?

You need a thermostat... The AC shuts down by design when this happens.

The only thermostat you should be buying is the ACDelco 131-158. GM P/N 12622410

All others have caused problems.
