Brake pads & squeaking question..

I hear them squeeking. How bad can I mess them up if I don't change them? Can I just get the cheapest $25 pads?

If they're squeaking, then you're probably down to the wear indicators which are designed to squeak, squeal, and make a general fuss when the pads are worn out.

So messing up the pads is of little concern, they're knackered, but you can score the rotors eventually leading to a bigger bill when you have the front brakes done.

If you haven't done your own brake work before, or it's something that you're unsure of, get your HHR to a reputable brake shop tomorrow.

Changed them and it was super easy :) Never changed pads before.

The only issue I saw was the rubber around the cylinder was bubbling up a bit when we compressed the cylinder to get the new pads on. Is this normal? Seems to be fine now after driving over 200 miles.

Not sure what "bubbling" means, but the rubber is accordioned so that it can expand and contract. It should not be wet.
