Car sputters and dies

Has anyone had this problem? I start the car, it sputters for a few seconds, and then it dies. It also won't start with the remote.

This happened the day I bought it (should have nixed the deal there ) and they replaced the oxygen sensor. It ran fine for 3 months and then did it again. Now they have replaced the computer but seem to be having problems because they were working the the GM engineers today to get thing "right".

Thanks!!

We've got to have more info. Did you buy it new? How many miles are on it? My experience in Florida has been that you'll go through a lot of oxygen sensors. Also, I just took mine in for it's 15,000 mile maintenance and they cleaned the intake. It was running a little sluggish but has much more "get up and go" now.

I'd betcha it's the Passlock system. I really wish they'd kick that POS to the curb. I'd pay higher insurance rates just so I wouldn't have to go through that again like I did with my old Blazer.

I did buy it new and it has just over 2300 miles on it. They ended up replacing the fuel pump relay. Can anyone explain what that is, where it is, and what it looks like?

Thanks.

It is in the fuse box located in the engine department. Relays are little black cubes about 3/4 inch sq. Fuel pumps are electric units located inside the fuel tank unlike the old bolt on the side of the engine type run off of the cam of years ago. So the ign switch doesn't have to handle huge amount of current when you turn the key, a small amount of current is sent to the relay when the ign it turned on and the relay then sends the heavy current required to operate the fuel pump. Headlights, wipers, fog lights, starters all require relays otherwise you would have a Hugh ignition switch with electrical cables rather than small wires coming from it.A bad relay means the fuel pump, pumps no gas to the engine. sputter and stops. Hello Mr. Service Manager, fix my car. Hope this helps you to understand relays some.
