For $2000, I am hoping that's a complete timing chain set, not just the $30 tensioner and 10 minutes labor.

You could ask if they would ONLY do the tensioner, or find a shop that would. That should not cost more than $200.

I, personally would not be paying Goodwrench prices for repairs. The guy down the street went to the same ASE school.

Just a quick update.. Car went in had to replace timing chain tensioner, pull the head and replace all 8 exhaust valves. GM did help with repairs. All said and done a $2700 dollar repair cost me $550. Next day car had to go back to shop for another check engine light. Guess somehow all the problems ruined the converter. That was still covered under warranty. so car is back on the road and so far doing well.

Could be they just left a bolt loose in the exhaust system. Keep your paperwork, P0420 takes a while to pop back up after it's cleared.
