Etching of paint on rocker panel and rear door rock guard
I still don't think they should be free. I think the affected area should be repainted as it is now in the TSB and the running boards should be offered to you at what it would have cost at time of purchase. I'm not asking for anything free but I should not have to pay extra or an installation fee for a problem that GM is aware of.

Like I'll say to the end. I think GM just issued that TSB to shut crybabies up. You know.....all the people that are like, "My car has paint chips so I called the BBB!"
GM obviously doesn't view it as a major problem as they have yet to make boards standard and issue a recall. If they actually viewed it as a problem there would have been a lot more action than just issuing a re-paint TSB. A handful of owners have elevated to a huge issue in their head.

I thought that TSBs were put out to CORRECT something that is WRONG.
Such as the TSB for the touch pad failure of the tailgate, radio popping, key stuck in the ignition.........so apparently someone at GM feels that something is wrong about the sandblasting issue.

TSBs are to correct a problem that a few owners may be complaining about or that a few vehicles may experience. Just because there is a TSB doesn't mean it is a major issue or it affects every vehicle. Trust me....try taking your car in for a TSB for a problem your vehicle doesn't have.
If the company views it as a major issue or it affects a large number of owners and vehicles then they issue a recall instead of a TSB. Seeing as GM has yet to issue a recall for the "running board issue" I highly doubt they view it as a major problem that affects a high percentage of vehicles and owners.

I just want to add that while, yes, I do complain A LOT about the running board issue. If you look at other posts here and other forums that I have. I am darn proud of my car. I post every little thing I do to her....maybe not here every time, but in forums.
I was just surprised that when I asked for something as simple as I did in my original post, I would think that the request would have been an OK one without a ton of criticism.
I am taking those papers (posts of people who said they got free boards) with me to see what I can get out of my dealership.
I also stated awhile back in another post that it was wrong of me to flat out blame ONLY GM. It is also the dealers responsiblity to make sure their customers are and remain happy with the vehicle they purchase...at least that is my train of thought.
I was naive in thinking that I would not have been informed more about the new car I am purchasing. I wasn't even aware that you could have things added on to a vehicle off the lot to add to the price of the loan until I talked to GM and they told me I should have gotten them when I purchased the car. I know now that even brand new cars will require MUCH more research before I buy one....if I ever buy one again. This is becoming a night mare. LOL

When a car is built 'with' a particlar part, the cost of doing so is bound to be different than an after purchase application.
With that in mind, how much, your estimate/best guess, do you think it costs during production, and how much after? Do you think they compare? And if GM eats the cost, ie: charged only the production based price, how/where do you think they recoup those loses?
