Etching of paint on rocker panel and rear door rock guard
I would suggest also calling the Customere Service line and reporting unprofessional AND ANTI CUSTOMER behavior.
A continuation of my saga. I called the chevy customer support line to complain about them not wanting to do anything for the etching of my paint. She calls the dealership and they say they don't have any records of me coming in. Talking to the chevy customer support person and she tells me the autobody manager can not make this call that the service manager must make it. How is it he does not know about this since I was supposedly not able to be covered?
So back to the dealership to have the service manager look at the damage. Such fun!

Wow, this thread started back on 2-9-2006 and it still keeps going and going and going.
Chevy screwed up and should of made runningboards as standard equipment last year.

You know for those of us w/o running boards who have not yet experienced chipping, you would think they would be willing to work with us on running boards BEFORE damage occurs, to PREVENT their having to repair the damage for free. The cost to repair vs. cost of running boards: six to one, half dozen to the other?

Lone, I have been there done that, I was fortune enough to sneek in under the wire so to speak. And the best option for Chevy we would think would be to work with those who do not have running boards, but over the last year and 4 months, not so.
At my dealer, the district rep just happened to be present when I stopped by at the same time the sales manager who bought a HHR for his wife, had their HHR in for the rock chips/etching/sandblasting, or whatever we can call it.
When I brought my HHR in for the repair, the service manager told me the TSB had come out on the repair, it was just luck I got mine installed and the paint repaired without having to bicker or argue on who was flipping the bill.
While some in Canada were getting the boards to their customers free. While here in the states when the TSB listed above came out, it pretty much shut down the free running boards. We did see a case by case issue taking place, and I certainly would not say to pursue it.
As a suggestion for everyone that is having this issue, when you visit your dealer, by all means be polite with them, the results of the outcome of the visit may work out better for you in the long run. Suggest that you could work with the dealer if he could reduce cost for you. By all means keep your cool.
Its like the rule
#1 Keep calm and be polite.
#2 No matter how mad you get, do not argue and refer to rule #1
Yes I still say Chevy screwed up in not making this option a standard on the HHR and a couple dealers I know in this area do not have new HHRs without runningboards.
All of the owners who have been through this have come to differing levels of resolve and we hope the best for you.
