B/B , I'm planning on keeping the mudguards on the vehicle after the boards are on. Sorry I can't help you out in that area. Good luck finding guards, I saw some online for about $30.00 a pair or so for the Chev. factory molded ones if you can't find used ones.

I believe BB is talking about the plastic gaurds on the front of the rear quarters, not mud flaps.

I`ve had a classified listing going, and I`ve been trying to find a used pair for a project.
Let me know...B/B
I did say fender guards, and this is a boards type thread, but thanx for the reply anyway...

PI$$ED! Paint chipping on flanges due to road debris? AGH!

Ive got a 2007 HHR bought late this winter. After only 2000 miles I noticed those plastic deflectors in front of the wheel wells all chipped up. Stopped by my dealer and they looked at it in amazement, said they never saw that before. Apparently road debris being swept up and hitting the vehicle. I DO NOT HAVE RUNNING BOARDS. Service told me they would contact GM weeks ago, I called 3 times since to be told they found it was a known issue on 2006 and the rep was researching 2007. Called again today and was told that GM agreed to repair those shields but want ME to put running boards on! This is unacceptable IMO! If there is an engineering flaw without running boards then they SHOULD NOT SELL THEM WITHOUT. I do not think its fair to ask an owner of a brand new vehicle to add several hundred dollars worth of add on just to protect the vehicles finish due to poor design. I havent bought a GM vehicle in 15 years since a fiasco with a $35,000 suburban that I filed a lemon law complaint with and I am sorry I bought another one. Should stick with the imports, sad to say.

I AM FIGHTING THIS AND IF NECESSARY, WILL FILE A COMPLAINT WITH ATTORNEY GENERAL. This is total BS and GM should be embarassed by this!

I have a 2.2 silver 1LT. The plastic pad GM put there in what it looks like an attempt to minimize the impact of road debris to the area is sustaining heavy damage too. I installed the factory mud flaps but the problem continues to progressively get worse. I drive on the turnpike at between 70 and 85 mph 5 days a week and worry that this will be extremely bad long term problem. Simply having it repainted will not fix the problem and I was thinking about going to the dealer to see if there is something that can be done (which I doubt) but wanted to see if this is a problem just with my car or is anyone else having it. Any suggestions on a fix short of buying the factory running boards would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wish all the best in thier plight for this. It is just a shame that all belive what they have been told by the Dealers is true. When reseach could have been done before buying. Which is better because you would have bought with the bds.
On 5 fourms this has been a subject, bottom line buyer beware, research, do home work before buying. Once you have bought, it now becomes your problem.
BBB does not help in 8 out of 10 cases.

Sorry you think so, I did research as a lot of others have, paid $495.00 when I ordered the HHR, for the BDs. This does not raise the cost, it actually lowers it, Think of your problems that you now have, and how much time you are having to get the problem solved.
Now the BDs come Primed, added cost is paint, and then they will install. $495.00 or $1000.00 which is cheaper.
As I had stated I wish all well in thier plight in getting free BDs, or at a discount.
Not a useless post if future owners do research before buying.
Many future owners are here, and they do read all to make a better judgememt.
