Fearing the worst for my 07 HHR LT 2.2l - Bad timing chain?

Well, for sure it needs a whole new timing chain kit. $1016 is the bill.
As for the oil loss, after seeing what everyone else here said, it really didn't seem possible that it lost that much oil and I got the sense that I wound up over-filling it.
However, the GM dealer mechanic said the engine looked like it went too long between oil changes and acting like that's the case because I didn't always take it there for an oil change, which is bullcrap. I regularly had it changed at 3000 miles, and it only went over a couple times after it was bought because I went by the oil life monitor. When I mentioned the oil life monitor, he actually said it's not a good idea to go by that and they see a lot of people end up with more engine damage than they normally would have when they stick by the monitor. I wanted to ask him then why have it at all, but I'm way too defeated at this point.
So is $1016 too much for this kind of repair?

If he went to class the day they covered doing everything strictly by the book, then that is probably about right. The "Book" says to replace the camshaft sprocket bolts, chain guides, oil spigot, tensioner, most bolts that are removed, the chain, all of the gaskets and I think the sprockets too. That's a good $350 in parts, plus about 7 hours labor taxes, shop supplies, oil change and filter, environmental fees etc.
You did get an itemized parts and labor bill, right. I would have asked for the old parts for scrap iron value (they will sell it).
