DB......

You are absolutely correct. I have no comprehension of benefits or value by involving a "Customer Service Representative". After all, I know how to use a telephone and I know my dealer's location. Now IF the dealer is an a$$, and gives the run around like many do, I would probably call the 800 number and initiate a complaint and escalate my problem. But my dealer has always been good.

However, it appears that fireman was partially correct. After the car battery was fully charged to 13.2 volts, the fob worked.....the second fob as well. I find it questionable as to why the car would start without a "grunt" with the key and not with the fob. Oh, the fob has a 1 month old batter. Anyway, the car is on the battery maintainer currently. An AC battery will be purchase Monday when the dealer opens.

Battery is 8 years old. So I got good use from it.

But this is an interesting lesson some may wish to remember....... battery on the low side of a charge and starts the car with a key, but will not start it with the fob.

Opps...forgot to say....THANKS FIREMAN

Bad car battery (did not mention battery at least 2 years out of warranty). Fob battery does not power starter.

My guess: the first attempt ran the battery down to less than 11.5 V, then the old timey "let it rest a minute" took over.

Glad you were able to sort it out.

I would still be suspect of that relay. In general, relays have to receive a power signal to activate. If the relay contacts or "innards" have a bad spot, it may be requiring a full voltage load to activate it.
You may want to replace it or at the least, keep a spare one in the glovebox.

That surprises me too snoopy. I would have thought that if there was power to crank the engine with the key that the remote start would do the same.

Nope your guess is wrong.....read my first post again (theory doesn't work especially for my second paragraph).

And I'm going to keep my old battery for several days just to continue to check voltage. In fact, I think I'll remove the maintainer right now. Then I'll check it periodically through Sunday and Monday (along with trying the fob start).

My fob battery comment was for Oldblue, which I also thought had nothing to do with the start of the car. But he would need to explain his comment because I don't see that as a problem area in regard to this issue.

OK, low battery not enough juice to activate relay via RCDLR, but key bypasses that relay?
