Helicopter noise
Helicopter noise
Hey guys. I have a Helicopter like noise coming from the front end when I reach speeds of 60 km or more. Just had an MVI done last week and when they went over the car I just needed 2 new tires and a sway bar link replaced. Noise is still there. Could it be the air filter? Have not been replaced since I first got it.
If it's not a "safety issue" they do not! They do not inspect for maintenance issues. Never ASSuME.
If it is anything like my state inspection, they only check brakes, lights, glass, tire tread, defroster operation and emissions.

Have you been riding with the rear windows down?
HHR's will produce that helicopter "thump, thump, thump" noise with both rear windows down and about 40mph.
Some kind of pressure and design of the car thing.

No they do not check the hubs as they would need a dial indicator on them with the wheels off to check the play that has to be .002 or more out. Even If the play is good it still can make a noise.
The comment about the window sound like what you describe.
This will create a thud. thud, thud sound at speed. It will resonate in the interior of the car and you in some cases feel it in your ear drums.
The rear of many cars taper back to have better air flow and because of that the rear windows are in more than the front windows. With the front windows up the rear window is like blowing over the top of a bottle. It is a very common thing anymore and just the nature of the aerodynamics.
Take a look at an HHR from above and you will see how the passenger compartment is tapered to the rear. The car narrows as it goes back.
