Knock Knock. Who's there?

Knock Knock. Who's there?
For the past several months, whenever I start my LT(Lady T), I hear a knocking or clattering noise coming from behind the dash. Could I please be advised on the seriousness of this particular noise and how it can be repaired.

I see from your profile that you have a 2006 LT, but a bit more info is needed.
What size engine do you have, 2.2L or 2.4L?
How many miles are on it?
Is the noise louder when the engine is dead cold, say from being parked overnight, is does it make the knocking/clattering sound at every start-up?
Does the noise go away after a few seconds, or is it continuous?
And does it get louder with engine speed?

If it's coming from "behind the dash" could it be your heater fan motor? If you mean it's in front of the dash (ie: the engine bay) open the hood to listen to pinpoint the problem area. The above posts may help you pinpoint some things to check. At this point all we can do is guess what it might be.

Or start humming the old Terri Gibbs song "Somebody's Knockin'".
Somebody's knockin'
Should I let him in
Lord it's the devil
Would you look at him
I've heard about him
But I never dreamed
He'd have blue eyes and blue jeans
Well somebody's talkin'
He's whispering to me
Your place or my place
Well, which will it be
I'm gittin' weaker
And he's comin' on strong
But I don't wanna go wrong
He must have tapped my telephone line
He must have known
I'm spendin' my time
Alone
He says we'll have one heavenly night
My fever's burnin'
So he ought be right at home
Somebody's knockin'
Should I let him in
Lord, it's the devil
Would you look at him
I've heard about him
But I never dreamed
He'd have blue eyes and blue jeans
He must have tapped my telephone line
He must have known
I'm spendin' my time
Alone
He says we'll have one heavenly night
My fever's burnin'
So he ought be right at home
(Somebody's knockin')
Somebody's knockin'
Oh, somebody's knockin'
Somebody's knockin'
Should I let him in
Lord it's the devil
Would you look at him
I've heard about him
But I never dreamed
He'd have blue eyes and blue jeans
Well somebody's talkin'
