I have a used 2010 that is nearing 120k but have not had a cylinder problem yet. I'm pretty sure I will not receive a letter due to my being the second owner. Does anyone know the VIN range that is affected?

Got mine the other day (#12089). Put it in the filing cabinet in case I need it.

Having the letter in your hand is not necessary to get the repair since the special coverage is attached to your VIN in the warranty system. But if you want one, you can try calling 800-222-1020 or ask Michelle who is a GM Customer Service rep on the forum.

If you would like to send me a private message providing me with your VIN, I would be happy to look into this for you.

Fortunately, they offer a 10 year/193 000Km warranty for the part only, (not including the labour to replace the part...from what I understand) should the problem occur in the future.

That's a bizarre way to handle a potential problem like that, IMHO. If a part is known to fail, prematurely, then I think GM should replace it. The letter feels like a recall that's not really a recall…
I got a letter from GM USA that says the same thing (number 12089.). It's nice that they'll cover it, but I agree with you. They know it's a problem, but they'll wait until it inconveniences us before they'll replace it. It's like saying, "Hey, we've discovered that your car is gonna break, but don't call us until it does."

Color me less than impressed.

I'm thinking about calling the dealer on Monday. If they say bring it in anyway, then all is good.

Yep call them & let them know how it has acted up a couple times, & when can they replace it..

Of course, then I'd be lying, since it hasn't given me a lick of trouble. That's kind of a crappy way to have to deal with it. No offense to you. (I saw the winky smiley you left off. LOL)

Since they have already identified a problem, I'd think a better way for GM to deal with it is to just bite the bullet and fix them all before they break, as a good will gesture. It's the least they could do in gratitude for receiving our tax money.
