Low battery on key FOB

After ~7 years of ownership, this messaged popped up on my DIC. I have two key FOBs one died years ago. I just bought a new battery and all is well. I was just surprised at seeing this message.

I looked into the other key FOB, and discovered that the bracket that holds the battery in place was broken.. But the key works, but no auto locking or door opening.

wow 7 years

I've had both fobs replaced. Both battery holders were broken. 1 of the replacements has already failed same reason and I suspect the same with the second.

You probably need just a new pad. You can get a new case including the pad for around $10. You just open the case and switch the circuit board to the new one. Or get the "keyless fix" for around the same price.
Check Ebay, you can use the fob case with the 5th button marked "trunk" it just doesn't do anything, they are easier to find and I know they work from experience.

programming?

do the new key fobs need to be programmed to work? I replaced the battery in my fob a while back. the panic button works but that's it. Will not lock or un-lock.

Yes, a NEW fob CIRCUIT BOARD needs the dealer to program, a new fob CASE or PAD does NOT.

See the previous post.

I noticed that the remote start no longer works. I rarely used it, but I'm cruising upstate NY and it is in the 30s..
