They seem to read high. Mine is usually about four to five degrees high.

By high I mean the cluster displays 52°C (~125°F) when it is 25°C (~77°F) outside, the sensor is definitely bad.

 

I have noticed on my 2011, which has the probe mounted in the lower grille opening, that when the cooling fan is on the ambient temp goes up several degrees. Presumably because the fan is blowing heated air on it.

 

I still haven't changed the sensor and today I thought it came back to normal again. When I started the car to come back home this evening I had this: 60°C (or 140°F). I think this is the max temp for the sensor because the number didn't change during the whole hour and a half long trip.

 

Yep, probably "open circuit" reading. The sensor is a diode, when they fail they go open (or closed depending on your point of view) which gives you the reading of the circuit instead of the diode. If you were to put a VOM on the leads you would probably get .060 volts.
