Final Update...
Replaced the solenoids with AC/Delco. The ones I got from NAPA were duds... The exhaust was the one giving the erratic readings and I assume that caused the code. All connectors checked out ok.
Small leak around the valve cover so replaced the gasket. Also, found a little carbon on the throttle body so a little cleaning was in order there.
No slack in the timing chain.
Good to go.
