The VVT actuator valves fit into the actuator solenoids, that bit on the end of the sprockets. The valves push oil to control the cam advance. (simplified)

"Will not ship" probably means it's truck freight. It needs to be crated (they don't do that) and loaded. Call your local junkyards, most will find one for you. Most will deliver locally.

First off I should say I am not affiliated with SWEngines.com, I'm just a satisfied customer.

Here is a link to when I had to change my engine

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...-engine-50425/

The engine in the '06 is different than all the rest of the HHR's built so I had to find one that matched. The Saturn Vue and some Cobalts had the same engine and I was able to find a fairly low mileage one that matched my vehicle at SWEngines.com.

The will only ship to places with a dock setup so not to your front yard. I asked at a place that I used to work and they took it off the truck and put it on my two wheel trailer for no charge.

I was able to get a local shop to put the engine in for what I thought was a decent price and I have been driving the hell out of it since.

SWEngines will work with you to make sure you are getting a good engine at a pretty fair price.

@Doc, thanks pal! It's all about karma for me. Do good and good things happen. We can thank Mom for that! That's why I built her an HHR!

@ Ol' Blue, grandma's (Mom's)HHR is a 2.2 so no VVT there. And is the vin D a genuine 2.4 car? The harness would have pigtails for the solenoids.

@Irish - That chain is NEVER that loose! Ever, period... Even with the tensioner and guides out. I just swapped the intake cam on the wife's SS. Tried doing it quick and clamping the chain to the exhaust cam, nope! That didn't work...ended up pulling the front cover and guides to allow me to wiggle it in place.

I will agree that the guides do fail, I've seen it twice now. They churn up into little pieces that block the oil pickup. I'm going to try making a set from UHMW. It's a super strong plastic material we use on our continous conveyor systems. We'll see how they work out once I start my own HHR project...someday
Gotta get everyone else's HHR running, the wife's included. She can't wait to do her first quarter mile! Me either, can't wait to see the look on her face.
