Yeah it's the timing chain. It's bad enough he called me down to look at it so I wouldn't have to take his word for it.
One of the guides apparently broke off and got chewed up.
After that, the chain was free to saw into one of the bolts.
"It looks like glitter in there."
The chain was soooo loose, he's not sure how
He's afraid that even after cleaning it up as much as possible replacing the oil pump, water pump, and all of the timing components, he couldn't be sure they got everything, so it might foul up all over again 100 miles later.
He's going to call around and get some prices on replacement engines.
I might just have to sell it for scrap.

If you get a used engine use the timing chain kit and water pump on it. It is a lot easier to change on the floor than in the car.
Figure about $1,000 labor and $800 for the engine (guestimate only).
