If you think you have a worn engine, why change the injectors? Or did I miss something?

It wasn't the easiest decision. It was just one fuel injector. But I was stranded 3 hours from home, just starting vacation. I'm hoping it's not too worn. I can get new seals from ZZP for under $40, and the tool for under $100. Hoping that fixes the oil consumption. If not, I start dumping chemical into the cylinders to free up the oil control rings.

The alternative was to pay somebody to transport it home, pay for a 1-way car rental to get the people home. Then a new LDK, Opel injectors, bigger turbo, intake gasket, a tune, new clutch and slave cylinder... probably $3,000 to $4,000 for all that. Then maybe a bigger intercooler, new charge piping... a money pit of temptation...

How many miles? You already have blow by and stuck oil rings is not the answer.
Injectors will never cure oil consumption.
Rings are the way to the problem.
You have done a leak down test? Yes?

I was under the impression that the head needs to be removed in order to replace the guide seals. I have found that to not be the case.

I can get seals for $20

and the tool for about $90(haven't shopped around yet)

So I'll be ordering these soon to try to fix the oil consumption problem.

I'm impressed, ZZP has already got the shipping label created, I may get all this in time to do it this weekend!

Removed the valve cover today, in preparation to replace the valve guide seals. The seals from ZZP showed up this morning, USPS. Waiting for FedEx to bring my tool, supposed to be today.

A little less satisfied with the mechanic's work in San Jose. He applied gasket sealer to the intake manifold, looks like the sticky stuff that you brush on.

It never had sealant of any kind before, don't know why he would take it upon himself to put it on. He didn't charge me for a new gasket, but he hinted that he was going to replace it. Maybe he didn't install a new one, and the old one leaked.

Next time I have to remove the intake, I'm going to have a mess.

The good news is that I thought my timing chain was a little loose, and I had planned on replacing it soon. But it's nice and tight!

Ooooh, just saw a FedEx truck outside..... Okay, tool is here!

The intake has 4 O-rings. He must be one of those old farts that puts gasket shellac on everything. Just hope he didn't put any silicone on it
