I had an inverter plugged into my lighter, then plugged a laptop in it and all was fine...might be your plug.

When I have used the remote start I have got a small pop. Only has done this a couple of times, so I am not worried, but will watch for a software update and news on this problem.

Thanks Teknobunie

I'm taking my HHR into the dealership to address (look into) this radio "Pop" issue and have them fix the cigarette lighter (power port) as well.

Hopefully my/the dealership will have some helpful info (GM update/fix) regarding the radio ... that I can share with ya'll on this thread.

Well yesterday mine did the radio "POP" thingy, it was more like a very loud crackle. I just have the standard radio and no XM. Although annoying, it doesn't bother me. I don't know if I want a reflash or not when the fix comes out, I say this because one of the things they didn't program into mine is that annoying shift light. Somehow it appears they forgot to turn it on and I hate it anyway, this just means I don't have to remove the bulb. I'm sure if I take mine in for a reflash they'll turn it on.

Does anyone know if GM has the "fix" for the radio popping sound as yet? Some said the fix was to be available on 3/16. Tonight, our radio popped again. This time, I started the car on remote start and it seemed to have popped when I inserted the key to get going (but not sure as my wife and I were talking at the time). I have not yet called the dealer, but will do so once I determine if the fix is available. Thanks.

I got my first radio pop yesterday after work, was not as loud as some have experienced. I will continue to keep an eye it to see if it happens again and how much. It really was not as bad as I thought it might be after reading some of the other posts but I figure it can not be real good on the speakers. I do have the premium system with xm. Hopefully with all the peported problems GM will figure out a fix. Peace Mark

Does anyone know if they have a fix for the radio popping sound as yet? I reported mine to the service manager about 2 weeks ago and he had never heard of anything like this before, but said he would call GM with my complaint when I bring in the car. My radio popped on occasion, but I thought it was going away, as it hadn't popped in about a week or so. (I have XM Radio).

Tonight on the way home, I had the radio off and left turn signal on and my wife heard some type of a "whooshing" sound in the background, which I was unable to detect (I don't hear as well as my wife). After I made the turn the turn signal went off. At this time, my wife first turned up the volume on the radio (thinking it was on - it was off). Then she pushed the radio button "on" and we heard the largest crack ever. If I didn't know of the problem, would have thought that either the car was hit by lightning, or we were hit with a rifle shot. My ears still hurt (15 minutes later). It was almost as if the charge was building up and let go at once. The crack sounded as if it was above the windshield all the way across. Frightening is the word to describe it. And I'm not exaggerating. Someone on this forum said that if it happens, you will know it!

If anyone has knowledge of the TSB for this, please let me know, so that I can print the information for the service manager when I take in the car next week (or even sooner). I think we have some ear plugs at work, which might help, but not sure if this is a good idea. Either way, there is a definite problem with the HHR in this regard. Any ideas ??

The latest I've seen is dated 3/16. It's TSB# 06-08-44-007A.

Thanks a lot Joe - While an interesting report, this is discouraging in that the problem has existed for several months and there is no solution in sight. What concerns me even more is:

What damage is done to the speaker system as a result of this popping? I don't see how speaker(s) could possibly withstand this amount of surge or whatever is causing the crack. The noise is deafening. Wouldn't it seem likely that GM might also be concerned about possible ear damage to the consumer, as this is a very strong possibility. I am about ready to leave my radio in the off position until this is fixed. But tonight, there was some type of sound even with the radio off while turn signals were activated. This could be a bigger problem than it might first appear.

I also have had more than the usual amount of static electricity buildup (getting shocked on exit) with this car (more so than in any other vehicle that I have had in years). Is there any connection? Too bad, as otherwise, I really am enjoying this car.
