My dealer called me yesterday and said that they can fix the radio pop, so I will be bringing it in next week when I have the time. I hope it works out well.

This morning, I called my dealer to make an appointment to get the radio pop fixed and the service technician on the phone said he had never heard of this. I told him there was a TSB on it. He then asked, "What is a TSB?" Hello.....

Hopefully they will get this pop fixed, as it is very loud. During the past 2 weeks or so, I have held my left ear closed with my left hand and leaned my right ear against my right shoulder when turning the key to start the car with my right hand. (I was going to use ear plugs, but keep forgetting to buy a pair). Amazing is that since my last post, no more popping radio! Is it possible that either it fixed itself, or that most of the speakers are blown out? I will find out next Tuesday when I take the HHR in for service, including oil change.

Any others have such an experience (popping sound going away)?? What I really worry about is damage to the speakers, as it seems that this is a very strong possibility in view of the loud cracking sound (like a rifle shot).

Last week, I received a phone call from the service manager from the same dealership, who was aware of the problem and the fix. This dealer has one of the best service departments in the area. Evidently my call of this morning was connected to a new employee or apprentice. I will be bringing in a copy of the TSB, along with several other posts that mention that a fix (in the form of a reflash) is available. I will report what happens next week.

Fritz,

FWIW, I had mine flashed on 4/21. I've been on a few business trips and haven't had it happen yet. Hope it's gone for good! It only takes about 20 min. to do.

I originally had a problem with my factory radio because the right side speakers played louder than the left. They re programmed the radio and it didn't help at all. They replaced the radio and all was fine.

Then later on the with the new radio, I shut the car off and I herd static comming from the stereo. I hit the power button and it POPs Loud. Crackles too. Sounds like a amp is loosing its ground.

Dropped my car off again today to get it worked on. Got a ****ty 96 lumuna with no gas.

Got my car back today. They couldnt get it to pop. They are ordering a new antenna for it because there was static on one station. Does anybody know the name or # of the TSB? They put a new radio in last week. I asked if they reprogrammed the radio. They said it has the most recent programming in it already. Anybody got any clue? Is the reprogramming working for anybody?

I want to be able to tell them so they dont look at me like i'm being an idiot or just a plain *******.

I just brought mine in today. Got into an interesting conversation with the service guy. I went in there explaining specifically that this TSB is what I am looking for. He went on to say that "we do not perform any TSB's a customer request. We need to know what the customer is complaining about. Their technicians will look at the complaint, and if they find something in the TSB's, that matches the customer complaint, they will apply it."

Anyway, it sounded more like a power trip than anything else. After all, they are the "experts" and I suppose they do not like to be told what to do.

So, I gave him a word-by-word description of the complaint as it is written in the TSB.

Here is the TSB# in question.

I hope this works...I have heard a few folks say it has worked. And hope they do not tell me it is my antenna, cuz I have the SoCal stubby on it right now........

I also heard a real loud sound a few times when I started the car, made the heart pump pretty good. My thoughts were that it was the rear seat belts making noise. I don,t know if they wind and lock but that is where it sounds like it is coming from. Any more ideas?
