Well my HHR is 3 days old and I've had this POP about 4 times now. And it flew me back into my seat. At least I know I'm not alone. I'm adding it to my list. Only two major problems. This POP from hell, and the rear spoiler is loose. Thanks for the information. Will let ya know how I make out.

Just got my HHR back from dealer, and it was re-programmed to resolve the ever so heart wrenching speaker POP.

The latest TSB is now 06-08-44-007B, at least that is what is printed on my service report.

From my experience, I had to play "dumb" about this TSB when describing it to the service consultant. I wanted to cut the chase and just tell him which TSB to apply. Well, he did not like this approach and started to tell me that they do not apply TSB information to any service. The customer must describe the problem. The consultant will write the report to give to the techs. And if the techs find that the TSB is appropriate, they will do the work. So, with the TSB printed in my hand, I gave the consultant a "word for word" description of the problem.

Hopefully, no one else has to be treated like I was, but I do understand that it is their job. And, they did apply the TSB. So far, I have noticed that the radio powers on much faster now.

Surely, If I get another POP, I will let you all know. I would recommend you make an appointment soon. Have the TSB number ready, but when describing the problem, tell them exactly how it is described in the TSB.

Lastly, for those of you that were worried about this Flash or re-programming affecting the shift light, do not worry, as this TSB only re-programs the Radio functions. It does not turn on the shift light.

My brother in law and I both noticed that the shift light does not illuminate in either car?? Maybe you have to program it?

Oh, for any on you who are having difficulty with the dealer resolving this...

I experienced the POP and found the TSB. Called dealer and they were clueless on the issue. Asked to talk to the service manager and he was not aware of it. I pointed him to the TSB on the web.

His answer was that I would have to bring the car in, have them verify the problem before fixing it. I told him that it was an intermittent problem and what if it did not happen when they checked it. He then said that they may have to keep the car a few days. That's when I flipped!!

I told him politely, but firmly, that I was experiencing the problem stated in the TSB. They would have to take my word on that if they cannot duplicate it when taken in and expected them to fix it. Why would I take my valuable time to take in in if it was not a problem? I had absolutely nothing to gain by getting the upgraded and fixed software. I told him should they give me a hard time about this that I would take the car to another dealer and that one could well be the one I buy my next car from and if GM didn't just fix it they this could well be my last GM car. I suggested he contact the GM rep and relay what I said and get back.

He called back in a few minutes to make the appointment. When I took it in the tech could not duplicate the problem, but noted on the record that he did and reprogrammed the BCM.

I have not had the POP occur since.

Guys, just be FIRM with any reluctant dealer on this! Good luck!

Ok since mine was flashed it now seems that the same frequency a pop would occur, ( It doesnt any longer) my XM channel resets to channel 2. Anyone experiencing this now? This only happens when i shut the car off leaving the radio on a xm channel. This all started after the Flash.

I took in my HHR today for oil change and 3000 mile service and the radio pop fix (I hope). Here is what the Invoice said:

CUSTOMER STATES THAT RADIO POPS AT TIMES WHEN TURNING ON?

CAUSE: BULLETIN R9707 RADIO AUDIO POP NOISE/REPROGRAM RADIO
135WCHEV (No charge)
FC: 93 PART # COUNT: 0
PERFORM RADIO REPROGRAM AS PER BULLETIN #06-08-44-007B

Hopefully all will now be OK, as this was the only issue found to date with the HHR.

Did you ever think of what a Service Manager faces each day? 7-8 out of 10 customers are coming in with some type of problem or complaint. I wouldn't want that job. At one time in my life, I was fairly difficult to deal with, but over the years learned that I am able to get a lot more cooperation by being ffriendly and polite with my requests. I always thank them for the service when leaving. (Then later if something develops, hopefully I will get some nice treatment).

Alright have read through all of these concerns about the radio POP problem. Is it me or does it seem that all the problem stems from the upgraded radios. I have the basic radio and have had my car for 2 weeks and have not heard a single POP.

I guess my question is any else having that problem that has the basic stock radio???? Maybe I am just fortunate.

Or maybe need to install my aftermarket radio and avoid that issue, which this process is a issue in itself
