Next week it's supposed to be decently warm around here so I'm online right now ordering stuff (sway bar, aftermarket seat heaters, maybe an amp) to try to get them done while it's warm. Maybe you'll get a warm snap and can get it done sooner than spring. Bad speakers (and the airbag light) were one of those little things that are just nagging issues that bug me to no end.

I agree the little things drive me nuts. If it needs to be fixed it has to go in lol. Even though I rarely listen to the radio I know something is broke so has to be fixed ! Once I decide on what speakers I want I may order them for me to me for Christmas lol

And in another thread someone listed GMpartswarehouse.com have 4 factory for the 100$ range !
If you like what I did in comment #19 above, get 5-1/4” speakers. If you’d like a little better bass, get 6-1/2” and adaptors. They go on the front adaptor, not on the back like I did with 5-1/4’s. The adaptors seem like less work, until you get done messing around with them and adding foam to seal them off acoustically. The 5-1/4” Kickers at about $60/pr from Wally World sounded really good, better than the $40 Kenwoods. Don’t bother with the pigtails, because the connector in the door are likely corroded anyway. Just solder some nice long leads to the speaker, then splice and solder at install. Or crimp or solder in some other connectors. Or whatever.

DO NOT BUY OEM SPEAKERS. They’ll just sound like crap briefly and then fail again. If you can find the Pioneer Premium OEM speakers, go for it, but they’re not likely to be a great value.

Thanks.

Yes I say the mod you did to the 5 1/2: speakers , Pretty cool

I was wondering about the 5 1/2" speakers , But I may upgrade the radio later if the bug catches me lol , So I will probably go 6 1/2: front and rear doors. Thinking of the JVC or JBL . Now to decide if a 2 way speaker or 3 way. Price is about the same ! Not a music junkie so do not want to make a ton of extra work for me lol

I just want to do this once lol and if my son ever needs his changed on his LT2 Ill be trained lol

2, 3, or 4 "way" doesn't mean that much. More "ways" is no assurance of higher fidelity. The cheapie Kenwoods were "4-way" and sounded fine. The pricier Kickers were just "2-way" but sounded better. Also, your A-pillar tweeters will still be active, so high-register performance isn't that important.

I agree that 6-1/2" speakers are the better choice.

I bought these adaptors but haven't used them. Yet. I used a pair of the pigtails in a car that showed no corrosion on the connectors. That's not always the case.

Very good info Thank You !
On the Crutchfield I can get the rings.pigtails and cones so all the goodies I would need :)
Plus I have a tube of Dielectric grease that I will use to apply a Tiny dab on the connectors.
SO I will stay with the 6 1/2" speakers :) I am getting anxious now so will order soon and give me a Christmas present lol
Again everyone Thank You for your advice to a Tech challenged old fart lol

Don’t forget to use foam weather strip tape between the speaker and the bracket and the bracket and the door - I think it was 3/8” tape from the hardware store - so you won’t get any rattling.

Not very difficult to just cut the cones out of the old adapters and tie wrap the new speakers into them. Saves $20 for 2 minutes work.
