Radio issue ?
Start looking now on eBay for a used Cobalt or HHR steering wheel - Cobalt will probably be an easier find. It's literally plug and play for swapping the wheel to get the steering wheel controls. I got mine for $65 but it took about a month of constantly checking - many sellers had them listed for $300! LKQ is also a good source but they sent me a crappy one and I sent it back.
I have a 1LT (was a Rental ) so It probably does not have the wiring harness in the steering wheel. Plus above my pay grade lol
But I do not use the radio much !
But Blue tooth on a new head unit would be nice :) ,
But really no plans on upgrading the Head Unit.
My HHR is a second car now , and my family will borrow it when theirs in in the shop. SO they can use the basic radio lol

The connector is in the steering wheel but you need a "harness" between that and the button module.
You can just trade entire steering wheels; one nut and a couple of electrical connectors. Look at the How to add steering wheel buttons post, there is info on how to remove the air bag etc (pictures).

Lol, the reason why I'm able to give you advice is because your car is virtually identical to mines! I think all HHRs have the harness - I'm sure Old Blue or Don will chime in on that. The steering wheel control is one of those things you don't miss if you don't drive other vehicles, but once you really get used to it, especially the mute button, it's one of those nagging things if you don't have it. The good thing is that the HHR radio is pretty close to you so it's easy to change the volume. I had an Acura previous to this car and the radio was like a yard reach, lol.
But I wlll be doing a few more things come spring on the HHR. Speakers, Either polish or replace the headlights and good seat covers ! And A slim maybe a new Head Unit :) I just found out the Crutchfield has a speaker Test section so i ahve been messing with that lol. I am down to 4 now :O My truck may be nextlol

I order those speaker bracket adapters ! Metra 82-3006
And Thanks Pulp Fiction for another set of brackets that can be used ! Good to have a choice !
When I get my speakers and the kit from Crutchfield Ill decide what bracket I will go with. But guessing the adapters I buy ! Simple drop in..
Also will be ordering the speakers in March as Crutchfield has 60 day return warranty
A Question , Are the speaker terminals marked + and Neg . ?
Do they look different ?
And I read the cone should bounce out if + and in with -
Thanks

Most speakers these days have different sized terminals, the manufacturer instructions should differentiate which is who or what! Somebody posted resently about this.
