Sensor receiving signal from remote locks/start?

Bought an '08 about a year and half ago. Always had trouble with the remote lock/start. Tried cleaning the contacts, different batteries, and all the usual stuff.

I went to buy a whole new remote today, and when the guy hooked up the programming unit to the car and tried pairing the new remote....nothing would happen. He tried a couple different times and still nothing. He went back inside and tested the new remote itself on a different unit to make sure the battery was good.....and it was. We're left scratching our heads as to why the car wouldn't receive a signal from a remote.

What on the car receives the signal from the remotes, and is there anything that could interfere or cause the sensor to go bad? I tried searching but everything that came up was for remote problems and not a problem linked back to the car itself. Any help would be appreciated.

Did your battery go dead just before this? What do you mea by "trouble"

2008 HHR need to have updated firmware for the RCDLR installed. The forget everything if the battery dies. TSB #08-03-16-001B.

Unfortunately, you are probably going to have to pay GM for it.
