Steering Problem

Well guys, I went on a road trip today and I am about 250 miles from the house. I was leaving somewhere to go to the place where I am spending the night and the steering wheel is real hard to turn. It kinda catchs as you turn the wheel back and forth in each direction. Any thoughts? It's a 2009 SS.

Thank you,

Left the HHR with the dealer yesterday and took the rental back down to Atlanta. They said it needs a new steering column and they got one ordered up.

Problem now is, I have got to make the round trip to Nashville again to pick up my ride on my next off day. GM will only pay for the rental until the car is fixed of course.
