Cold start - how long to get to 150*

Mine takes 5.5 minutes to get to 150* from a cold start (overnight), idling in neutral.

My mechanic said that is too long, and I needed a new thermostat. I put in the new 131-158 ACDelco, and it still takes 5.5 minutes.

How long should it take, what time is everyone seeing with your HHR?

Wondering if I have another bad thermostat out of the box?

I presume you meant 180F.
If you don't get P0128 don't worry. It is the ECM that needs to be pleased not the mechanic.

149* is a milestone in the drive cycle, so I'm guessing that's why it concerns him. It calls for letting the engine idle for 2 minutes and 149*.

I start my car in the morning and by the time I get to the freeway it's at leat 180.
Ready to drive at increased speed.
The temp doesn't stop at 149.

Are you still trying to accomplish the elusive "Drive Cycle"? Don't bother.

I asked the question before today's drive cycle, a trip to the next town. Then I went home.

This afternoon, we had to go to the grocery store. Before we left, I figured I'd waste my time, and check the I/M status. I was blown away, everything was ready!! I went straight to the mechanic for the smog check. I now am the proud owner of a smog certificate!!
