If that's so, then I would think you should replace the key cylinder instead of trying to fix the old one.

So what switch makes the HHR ding. Is it the black ring, I know this is part of the RFID that reads the key, but maybe it detects the key prescence as well? Or is it the white thing?

Not exactly sure. Never had one apart to look. But, my guess is the green and yellow wires go to a sensor switch ?

According to the wiring diagram; the white wire from the SWITCH is labelled "key in sensor" but it goes to the run/crank voltage.

Yeah Don, that does seem to be the wire from the ignition switch to the crank relay. I was thinking the green and yellow in the picture were the wires that carried the "key in" signal from the key cylinder to the ignition switch.
Then I looked up this diagram and got more confused because it only showed the tan/brown wires. Oh well.............

I'm getting a headache trying to decipher the wiring. The yellow is there next to the white.

Was looking at the print out from the dealership and the recall was done within a month of the recall so I'm trying to get in touch with gm Canada to see if it was done with old parts, hoping to talk with a actual person tomorrow as I finally have a day off
