How many have changed their own oil? How many of those have found oil in any appreciable quanty in the filter housing? Theres your momentary tap..its takes but a few seconds for the oil to pressurize ALL the ports...and of course ..not all vehicles will act the same...is it bad? probably..but every car made will do this to some extent at start up unless you use a accusump....and they lives thousands of miles..

Yeah, I noticed there is a bit in there... I used a clean, CLEAN rag and wiped all the old out before putting the new in. I suppose I could have even put a little in with the filter...I usually put oil in the filter on the truck/Lumina.

I just turned 52K miles on my 2.4L '06 HHR. I wanted the dealer do a 50K check.. I had them change the oil. I took in my own Mobil 1 5-30w as I have been using that since the car was new. I had 10K miles on the last oil change (done by me in March 09) and the DIC said 27%. I had done mostly highway driving in the last four months. They also did a transmission flush, whether this was really needed, only the GM gods know.

The oil level was full so I could have gone a while longer before the change oil soon indicator came on.

If you go with the Amsoil long life synthetic and the Amsoil Nanofiber Extended life filters, you can go 15-25K without changing oil, depending on driving conditions.

I follow the DIC. I change my own oil, and do it before the CHANGE OIL SOON comes on -- but just barely before. Mobil 1 5W30. 38K with no issues.

Natural oil although refined is made from crude containing dead plants and animals. When heated that oil produces ash which means it is self contaminating. Synthetics are not all created the same. Amsoil has been around the longest and the other companies have followed along as the demand has increased.

I use Amsoil 5w-30 and I have over 70,000 on my HHR 2.4. The engine runs as smooth as it did when I bought the car. I change it strictly by the OLI, but that mileage is typically a short change considering Amsoil users often go 25,000 with a filter change at 12,500.

Some natural oils on the market come from oil companies that own refineries, while other companies buy oil and "package" it to their specifications. If you wish to do some research, you can easily determine which are which. Synthetic oil is chemically engineered from a polymer base in a labratory. Each molecule is identically sized. This is an added benefit when considering a filter.

Do your research and you can make a sound decision. Mobil One is well thought of in the community, and I would say it's a close second to Amsoil.

I change the oil when the "Change oil soon" light comes on. I always use 5w30 conventional oil...sometimes I do it myself, sometimes not. I change the filter every time.

My HHR is an 06 2.4 and has 112,000 on the ticker with no tapping or other issues.
