I just don't trust the computer. I mean look how the average MPGs are usually off. As my dad says, they call them idiot lights for a reason...

(No offense to anyone who uses them!!)

Question New HHR oil change

Gents,
I'll be getting a new HHR whenever they start production again, I ordered it May 1st. From what I'm reading on here, I think I'm sold on Mobile 1. How long should I leave the 'factory' oil in it before I change to Mobile 1??? 2K? 3K?
Thanks for your replies...

I changed the factory oil when the DIC stated to do so. I went with M1 from that point on. Mileage will vary from user to user.

New motors have tighter tolerances, there is no break in oil in these motors.

Black gold!

In my last vehicle ('03 Nissan Frontier P/U) I tried Mobil 1 just to see what it would be like (at the change). I too noticed a slight tapping (louder at start-up). The noise was a little disconcerting but I figured it was fully synthetic, so it must be OK. They cook it in a frying pan right? I just recently figured out how to use the DIC & I saw that my oil life was at 10%
I went with a semi-synthetic for my HHR. Seems to be humming right along. I'll probably change it again at about 30-40% DIC

The DIC is not measuring oil level. It is determining oil condition.

I use synthetic. What ever the brand that the GM dealer uses. I figured that it is cheaper to use synthetic, changing the oil by the DIC, than using regular oil, changed every 5000 km (3000 miles). I get slightly better milage with the synthetic too.

I changed the oil on mine at 3000 miles and have used "Royal Purple" after that. I won't go any farther than 5000 on a change and have done this with all my rides sence 1996 and have not had any engine problems at all !

The DIC does not measure oil condition. The computer monitors your driving habits to determine when to change oil (speed, rpm, temperature etc.)
