Ok yeah that makes total sense I thought I was going crazy. I timed it one final time and got the cover back on. Felt confident this time cranking it up. I have an another issue that sprung up. No code popping up but is not starting. Not the usual no start tho, the starter begins to engage the reluctor ring for a second then starter just spins. Pretty odd and again no codes besides the same p0300. I’m not sure how to approach this. Starter is brand new still in good shape no loose bolts and feels snug. What do yall think ?

Even new parts can be bad.

I’m about throw my hands up with this thing. I’m sure I have the marks lined up correctly. Cams 10 and 2 with the crank mark at 5. I released the tensioner before tightening to leave no doubt it engages. Today I took off the starter and got a warranty replacement. Do yall think it’s possible the transmission fluid could be low could play a role in it not starting?

You say the starter turns the engine over momentarily, then just spins.

Yes sorry for late response. I once again removed timing and valve cover and made sure the the timing marks are aligned and that's not the problem anymore. When I try and start the flex plate is turning the crankshaft for a second then you here the starter finish it's rotation spinning freely. No new codes. I did fail to mention previously that I did get a few codes for the Camshaft position sensor due to the 3 wires being cut. I put a new pigtail and erased the code and the next time I tried to start is when this problem starting appearing.

You put a new pigtail on the camshaft position sensor, which is right there by the starter. Just a shot in the dark, but I would be looking closely at that. Donbrew has a link in his signature to repair manuals, including wiring diagrams and connector schematics.

Was the starter acting right before? What did you do anywhere around the starter.
This has nothing to do with the timing chain. For some reason the Bendix is retracting prematurely. What is the state of the battery; maybe not enough to keep the solenoid engaged.
Did you do anything to or around the fuse box?
Are you positive the spliced wires are correct? Sure the exhaust goes to the exhaust; intake to intake?

Do you have a cracked flex plate. They can crack around the center.
