Is replacing the tensioner bolt as easy as pulling the old one out, and threading the new one in? Or is there some special step I should be aware of. 2010 panel 130k miles.

 

You might have to remove the valve cover to release the spring in the tensioner. If your engine is making noise, it’s better to change the timing and balance shaft chains.

 

Is that true for the new style bolt. I thought that it didn't need to be unloaded in the block.

 

I experienced a problem with the new style not releasing and that caused problems, so , I had to replace my timing chain. As I said, you might have to activate it. Maybe not.

 

I wish we would stop calling them old style/new style. There are VVT and non-VVT styles. The VVT style works in non-VVT. In a 2010 you already have the "new" style.

Why do you want to replace it? If it is extended as far as it can you need a new timing chain.
