I don't know about that.
Built many engine(standard and torque turn) and everytime used a lubricant on head, main and rod bolt.
Let's put it this way, if there was a bolt and a hole(or a nut), lube went on it and I never had a problem.
50 plus years turning wrenches.

Transmission fluid is still leaking a little bit. All the bolts are torque to 89 in/lbs. The pan and gasket are new. All of the surfaces were dry during installation. Would that be a good idea to torque them to 106 in/lbs as suggested in this post (https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/driv.../#post629239)?

Gently, very gently tighten them as suggested.

Checked it today. It is still leaking at that one spot in the back. What options do I have at this time? I was thinking of slowly draining all the fluid, dropping the pan, cleaning everything real good including the bolts, applying silicon gasket maker (
Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker
), putting the pan back on and torquing it to 89 in/lbs.

I may have to do a lot of clean up in 100k miles...

You might as well clean it up now, straighten out the pan flange and clean the surfaces really good!
Did you reuse the OEM gasket? Cork ones tend to leak, and neoprene ones don’t have the metal sleeves

I got ATP B-171 Automatic Transmission Filter Kit (
Amazon Amazon
). It did have the metal sleeve inside.

Maybe this is why... "The gasket came bent with a couple kinks in, rendering the gasket completely useless. I just reused the original one and there are no leaks to be found"
Just found this in one of the reviews. I had to straighten mine as well, because it had kinks in it.

You mean the metal sleeve seal for the transmission filter, I mean the small metal pieces in the OEM pan gasket there should be 12 of them, did you keep the original gasket?

The actual gasket had a metal insert inside of it which made it bendable. It seems that manufacturer decided to just toss the gasket into a large box together with the filter and as it was shipped to you it would get bent out of shape making it unusable. Many people have complained about this problem on Amazon review of this product. There were no complaints about fel-pro gasket of the same type, so I guess these guys actually ship it attached to a cardboard so it doesn't get bent.

I got gray permatex sealant and will apply it ASAP to the existing gasket.
