will not start after gas fillup
I do my lift work at the USAF base close by, as I am ret. USAF. The employee there that I usually trust to know what is going on because of his being where all those things happen, said that on GM products that solenoid is the most common problem in the evap system besides the gas cap loose or needs replaced. and I have tried to just remove the cap to reproduce the problem and it does not happen. Only on fillups???
One thing you can try is to disconnect the purge valve hose under the hood and plug them off. This will remove the fuel vent/purge system from the engines intake manifold. Then fill the tank. If the problem is still there then your problem has nothing to do with the evap. System.
You could have a leaking injector that's flooding the engine as it sets during fuel ups.

Get the actual codes....we, including your trusted friend, are all guessing here. There is no sense in THROWING money into parts (that is what you are suggesting) and not knowing what the actual problem is.
Your problem may, or may not be, what has been suggested. But wouldn't you really want to know in an effort to minimize the expense.

Got It
Well! I'm back with the situation update. I have not gotten to my mechanic friend, his shop is on the other side of the city from me and I live 8 miles beyond that. I heard all of you all's info and decided it had to be one of the solinoides. I felt it was the canister purge one. I priced the 2 common ones and one was $13 and one was $53. The one I was after was the $13 one so I bought it and it was a breeze to replace. Today the tank was close to empty and I wanted to go on a couple hour trip. I replaced the thing in 10min and went to the gas station. Filled it up, Turned the key and it started with no hesitation at all. My wife even felt it had better pick up and ran smoother. At this point I am considering it closed and really appreciate you all's help. Thanks.
I assume the $13 one was the one under the hood.
And just to get it out there one more time: Autozone, Advance, PepBoys, O'Reilly etc. will read the OBDII FOR FREE, there is no need to drive across town to get a buddy to do it for free, or to pay anybody
