Got some oil and a filter.

anyone know why the existing oil filter had this extea clip and a spring? Does the 2.0 just use the same filter as the 2.2 and 2.4?

All years and Trim levels use the same filter. That might be the wrong filter, might explain why it's so badly crushed, are there any numbers on it?

I think I tossed it already. :/

looks like the same filter but with an extra piece on the bottom.

Dug it out. Im assuming this is a stock oil filter cap and it just broke?

That is the oil filter cap end of the oil filter, the end with little point goes downwards into the oil filter housing

Left photo is the top, pointed end is bottom , it appears the cap could be damaged somehow

Ok I'm pretty sure this piece is just broken. It seems to work just fine when I put it together.

going to hit the junk yard and look for one. I think they still have an hhr there.

Also...with the insert being broken, it would not stay in the actual oil filter cap and cause the filter to compress the way it did. Which makes sense now.

I think the broken part is part of the cap, not the filter.

Yes 100%. The little spring tensioned insert up top.

A new cap with seal and oil filter isn’t that much to order, or pick one up at your local parts palace!
