Don't know about SS, but it's not that big a problem on 2.2L. You just need 30 double jointed steel fingers on 4 hands to manipulate the plastic tabs.

 

I usually have skinny enough hands and fingers to deal with that. I finally gave up dealing with the wife and took it to the dealer. Probably cost an extra hundred over an independent, but I can walk there and they stand behind their work. So far it seems OK, but the weather cooled so it's hard to tell. I have the old fan and will take it apart to see if it's reasonable to fix them.
