SS Manual Fluid

What fluid is used in the SS 5-speed?

The owner's manual lists a GM part number that doesn't seem to work.

I tried searching but it doesn't come up as easily as I thought it would.

Thanks
Steve

Wikipedia says the F35 uses Synthetic 75W-85 GL-4 Gear Oil. Does that sound right?

I should have looked into this more than a couple of hours before filling.

GM 88862472. Do a Google search on that and it shows up available all over.

Thanks, FMG.

It turns out I had a number wrong when I copied it.

I'll be going to the dealer today and hopefully they have it.

It might be on Amazon if they don’t have it at the dealership

According to this site, there is a supersedation to that part number

19351859 Manual Transmission Fluid (SAE 75W-85)

Every local GM dealer is out of it. They say 7-10 days to get it.

No local stores carry it or have it in stock.

I found a local parts store that is having it brought in for me from Rochester (75 miles away) and I am picking it up this afternoon. And its a good price too (less than online).

Wonder of that’s part number consolidation. They constantly battle part number proliferation, like a new gas cap because someone didn’t like the length of the tether, as an example from a real former GM engineer.

Redline “GL-85” is a full-synthetic that claims to conform to 75W-85 GL-4, and it seems to be available all over the place, at least on line.

How different can 75W-85 GL-4’s be? Who knows? GM seems to have created their Dexos standard because they didn’t think industry standards were getting the job done.
