steering angle sensor/power steering

I have an '08 SS model that I recently replaced the intermediate steering shaft on. After replacing the intermediate shaft the car began showing a SERVICE ESC and a POWER STEERING dash message.

A trip to a local mechanic for a scan revealed that the problem is a faulty steering angle sensor. I'm fairly certain that I damaged the sensor during my replacement of the intermediate shaft.

I was able to find a replacement part (15821965) and ordered it. But as I look under the dash of my SS I'm not seeing a part that resembles the replacement part that I just ordered.

I know that the SS has many model specific parts, does anyone know if the SS takes a different steering angle sensor than the base models?

Is it possible that the sensor is built into the power steering assembly on the SS model?1965

According to this GM site , that part is for LS/LT , not SS

If it’s in the column it’s probably obsolete!

I'm going to pick up a replacement SS power steering assembly from a parts yard next week. 🤞 Gotta love these SS specific parts.

Is it faulty or just needs calibrating? Did you turn the steering wheel a tiny bit when replacing the shaft?
What I am really asking is : what is the code NUMBER the mechanic found?

Don, got message reply re 3 issues. However, Microsoft has a pop up blocker on so it won't let me see. I use this site so infrequently that I can't navigate easily. Sorry. Still on for Ice Cream?? Billy Kirkland

I deleted the email address to avoid the hackers and scammers

I did a steering angle calibration on a Nissan March.
I don't know why the setting was broken, but it was easy to fix.
1. Removed the steering column cover, found the sensor;
2. raised the car on a car lift so that the front wheels hung in the air;
3. I Removed the preservative clay from the adjusting screw and loosened it. There was a difficulty here, the screw was protected by the factory from unauthorized penetration, so I had to look for a rather exotic tool - an "asterisk" with a hole in the center. But this is the only difficulty;
4. After loosening the screw: by rotating the sensor, I brought the front wheels into a straight line position, the steering wheel took the neutral too. It remains only to fix the adjusting screw and make sure that the problem is fixed.
The first attempt improved control, the second attempt eliminated the problem completely.
I'm pretty sure the Chevy's sensor is different from the Nissan one. But the principle must be the same.
I used the video as a guide to action.

On the HHR it is a digital thing that needs a computer interface.
