Do you hear it now know matter what - Yes and no. It is clearly heard when releasing a WOT, considering that I am frequently WOT I would say yes no matter what.

Did you hear yours before the new turbo? Yes, however the tone has changed to a lower pitched "pushss" that a higher pitch "pishhh"

Angry Today at dealer again.

Well, my 'SS' is back at the dealer. This is the fourth time. First time, really wasn't bad enough I guess; they couldn't find anything. Second time, tech rode with me (him driving) an I got a "HOLY S%^T" out of him. He said, "okay, we deff. have a problem." Finally, something to go on. Top t-map sensor for Stage-1 was replaced. This didn't do it. The last time, ECM was changed. Guess what, its back for the same problem. Still surging and 'shuttering ' down the highway. So, I think I convinced him to solder wires and check by-pass valve (hope they changed turbo since bypass comes with new turbo only) .

Think I am on to something; this forum is awesome. I am just about convinced my By-pass spring is bad and the diaphragm is not working properly causing by-pass leaks, boost surging, bogging, and hesitations. I ordered a spring, and will give you guys and update. Thanks to the BOV thread!!!!!!

Sorry I didn't read every single post ( ten pages of them) so if someone else has offered this fix, sorry.

My story is about the same as most here. The surging first was noticed slightly around 35 to 40 MPH.

Not all the time, just enough to be an annoyance.

Then one night I punched it getting onto the highway and Scream went the turbo ! Very loud noise and no turbo boost (5 pounds only max.)

Next day everything was working fine, go figure? But the surge started getting worse.

My Solution:

My son put our scanner (AutoXray EZScan-5000) on the old girl and told me the O2 Sensor was bad. O2 sensors are supposed to cross-count and mine wasn't do that. Hung around .5MV without moving much at all.
Checking my Air/Flow gauge: It was all over the map, with violent mood swings everywhere.
The ECM had no way of knowing what air / fuel mixture to administer.

The Fix:

However getting the dealership to listen to the customer was a different story.
Short story, after three trips and me telling them all three times it was the O2 Sensor, it finally threw a code and they replaced, YES, the O2 sensor.

Not a single surge or stutter since getting it back.

I'm sure there are many other reasons for the surging and stuttering being reported here. This is my solution, and it worked so far.

FYI: 2009 HHR/SS Turbo Stage 1 kit , 16K miles
