ive been running my winters WITHOUT sensors since november and only thing i get is the tpms light on the dash and my DIC saying "service tpms" or something along those lines...i just hit the "reset" button on the steering wheel and just drive..nothing else :)
but im wondering if aftermarket sensors can be used, since i have had difficulty in synching up ones from a same year cobalt and no luck...mine came with the steel/alluminium style ones that bolt to the rim and not the "newer" styled rubber ones that hang freely..but i dont want to go to dealership and pay $500 for sensors, hoping an aftermarket out there has been successfull

Cost me about 46$ for one sensor........and its a metal one piece. Worked right well AFTER it was scanned...before you do anything else roll over to a tire shop with a scanner and have them 'reset" the individual wheels and see if that works....

yeah..I know..I cheaped out and had Wally World do it...they had a sensor. After another shop wanted 168$ just to swap on used rubber, I went where no man dares to go....

The sensors fit all new OE wheels just need to match up for the monitor.

Some aftermarkets will not take them. They will fit Solstice wheels.

If they can unbolt you can move them if they pull through you can move the sensors and get new stems as they make replacement rubber stems.

Ok, looked up the price I paid to Tire Rack in 2010 - $34 each.

I really don't like those things. I check my pressure manually all the time.

I bought new tires and the firestone store was installing them when their tpms hand held machine broke and it was a mess to get it right.

I finally had to take it to the dealer (Bunnin Chevrolet) that charged $200 to reset them, which seems high, but they tried to tell me that had to replace them for $700 plus parts.

(as HyperV6 stated)

GM recommends adding new stems when getting new tires.. They can easily be swapped to other rims. Either need new rubber stems, or the packing kit for solid mount.
