I think I'm still going with the General tire, It has a higher rating when I compare the 4 that I've looked at....and I might go with the taller/wider tire. going to go and look at tires next weeekend when I return home....But thanks for the input

I found them for $99.00 each
225/45/18 UTQG rating of 380 AA A Performance Rating 91Y Sidewall BSW
What do yall think of this choice
I have them on my HHR SS, but only have 3K miles on them so far. I like em just fine. They are quiet, decent in dry weather, very good in the rain and in my opinion OK in snow although Tire Rack recommends against using them in snow. Since you're not likely to get much snow in Houston they really might work well. The biggest complaint I;ve seen in reviews is about tread life being somewhat short, but they are performance tires after all.

When it's time for tires, and maybe before then, I'll be using Nitto 555 tires.
A good friend of mine ,used to have a tire shop that catered to some very high end race cars, in addition to street cars. He autocrosses[and is quite good at it-read: "Wins a lot"] and also does some road racing. He said, if I wanted to hook up the SS real good ,to use Nitto 555. He uses Nitto 555R, which is a little softer, and used for racing. They make them in our [SS] size. "Moon"

Nice to know we can go a little wider on the stock rims. Does anyone know what the widest tire in a 19" size rim would be?

Oops, good question! I just started looking at 19's so let's assume it would be a 19"x8" rim for now. I'd never go +2 on the SS, the extra weight of a 20" rim would negate the performance benefits IMHO. I'm looking to find a set of lightweight 19's, or the lightest 19" I can find that I'd like + can afford.
